Bhubaneswar, March 20: In a major crackdown on alleged tax evasion and financial irregularities, the Income Tax (I-T) department conducted simultaneous raids on multiple locations linked to prominent liquor trader Bikram Sahu in Odisha on Thursday. The raids were carried out across various districts, including Angul, Talcher, Kamakhyanagar in Dhenkanal, Paralakhemundi, Puri, and Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, I-T officials also searched the residences of businessmen Tirupati Sahukar and Someshwar Sahukar in Paralakhemundi, who are reportedly relatives of Bikram Sahu. The operation is part of an ongoing investigation into suspected tax evasion and illicit financial transactions. Officials are scrutinizing financial records, including bank statements, account books, and other crucial documents, to detect discrepancies and potential violations.
Additionally, a special 12-member team was deployed to examine the financial dealings of Tirupati and Someshwar Sahukar, focusing on their involvement in the liquor and transport sectors. While officials have not yet disclosed specific findings, the extensive raids indicate a significant probe into the financial network of Sahu and his associates.
