Young woman killed in Balasore after rejecting youth’s advances; accused on the run

Bhubaneswar, Feb 24: In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old woman, Jyotirmayee Rana, was allegedly murdered by a youth after she rejected his advances. The crime took place at Lingapada village under Soro police limits in Balasore district.
According to sources, the accused had been stalking and harassing Jyotirmayee for some time. When she refused his advances, he attacked her in a fit of rage, slitting her throat. The young woman, who had been working in a private organization in Bhubaneswar, had returned to her hometown two months ago.
The attack occurred when she was alone at home, and the assailant took advantage of the situation to commit the crime. Family members, upon returning home, discovered her in a pool of blood and rushed her to Soro Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Notably, Jyotirmayee had earlier lodged a complaint against the accused at Soro police station, citing harassment. Following the crime, the accused fled the scene. The police have launched a manhunt and are investigating whether the murder was premeditated or driven by a love affair gone sour.
