Massive ganja seizure in Kandhamal as police intensify crackdown

Bhubaneswar, Feb 21: In a major operation against ganja smuggling, Kandhamal police seized over 10,852 kilograms of the contraband during multiple raids across the district on Friday.
According to a press release issued by Odisha Police, the seizures included 6,520 kg from a forest near Daruogonda Ghati jungle, 1,520 kg from Kasinpadar village in Phiringia, 2,052 kg from Sudruju village, 650 kg from Jakripada jungle in Baliguda, and 110 kg from Sunapanga village in Tikabali.
Under the leadership of Kandhamal Superintendent of Police (SP) BC Harisha, a special task force was formed to curb illegal activities. The raids were conducted following a directive from Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania.
Reports suggest that the ganja was being smuggled from Kandhamal's forests to various parts of the state. Police, acting on a tip-off, had been tracking the accused for days and arrested one person in connection with the operation.
Notably, Kandhamal police have launched a special anti-ganja drive that will continue until March 31, aiming to completely eliminate ganja cultivation and smuggling from the district.
