KIIT B.Tech student’s body handed over to family, taken to Nepal for last rites

Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: The body of Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), who allegedly died by suicide in her hostel room on Sunday, was handed over to her family members on Tuesday night after a post-mortem examination at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
Following the completion of legal formalities, Prakriti’s family took her mortal remains to Nepal for her last rites. The 19-year-old student’s death has sparked serious concerns over harassment and mental health issues on campus.
Reports suggest that Prakriti took the extreme step due to alleged harassment by a fellow student, Advik Srivastava, a Mechanical Engineering student at KIIT. The authorities launched an investigation into the matter, and Srivastava was apprehended by the Commissionerate Police at Bhubaneswar airport on Monday evening, allegedly while attempting to leave the city.
Police officials have initiated a detailed probe into the case, and further action will be taken based on the evidence and statements from the investigation.
