Youth electrocuted while stealing coal from train in Odisha’s Cuttack

Bhubaneswar, Feb 14: In a tragic incident, a youth was electrocuted to death while attempting to steal coal from a goods train at Gurudijhatia railway station in the Athagarh area of Cuttack district on Friday morning.
While the identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed, it is suspected that he was a resident of Chha village in the vicinity.
According to reports, a coal-laden goods train was stationed at the railway yard when the youth climbed onto one of the wagons to steal coal. In the process, he accidentally came in contact with a high-voltage overhead electric wire, resulting in instant electrocution. His charred body remained at the scene for a long time before authorities were alerted.
Upon receiving information, Railway Police (GRP) reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and railway authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain further details regarding the incident and to take necessary precautions to prevent such mishaps in the future.
