Odisha govt seeks explanation from OCA over floodlight failure at Barabati

Bhubaneswar, Feb 10: The Odisha Sports Department has issued a show-cause notice to the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) regarding the unexpected floodlight failure that disrupted the India-England ODI at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
During the match, one of the floodlight towers malfunctioned, leading to a suspension of play for nearly 30 minutes during India’s innings. The sudden disruption not only inconvenienced players but also left thousands of spectators frustrated. The incident has sparked criticism, raising concerns over the stadium’s infrastructure and preparedness for hosting international matches.
Taking serious note of the issue, the Sports Department has demanded an explanation from the OCA, questioning how such a lapse occurred despite prior arrangements. The association has been given 10 days to submit a detailed report outlining the reasons behind the failure and the measures being taken to prevent a recurrence.
Barabati Stadium has hosted several high-profile matches in the past, but this incident has put the OCA under scrutiny, with many calling for improved facilities to ensure Odisha remains a preferred venue for international cricket events.
