Simultaneous raids expose disproportionate wealth of Watershed Project officer

Bhubaneswar, Feb 5: Odisha Vigilance officials have uncovered substantial assets during searches related to Santanu Mohapatra, the Deputy Director & Project Director of the Watershed in Malkangiri, on Wednesday. The operation revealed a multi-story residential building, four high-value plots, approximately 300 grams of gold jewelry, and cash totaling Rs 1.55 crore (with counting still ongoing).
Among the assets linked to Mohapatra and his family are:
A triple-story residential building covering around 6,000 square feet located in Jeypore, Koraput.
Four high-value plots situated in Bhubaneswar and Jeypore.
The valuation and assessment of these properties are being conducted by the Vigilance Technical Wing, while inquiries into bank deposits, insurance, and other investments are also in progress. Ongoing searches continue at eight locations, including Mohapatra's residence, to investigate disproportionate assets allegedly amassed by several officials involved in the Malkangiri Watershed Project.
Additional raids are taking place at the homes of Mohan Mandal, Bisan Mandal, and Amiya Sahu, who are also employees of the project. The extensive operation involves two Additional Superintendents of Police, four Deputy Superintendents, ten Inspectors, six Assistant Sub-Inspectors, and additional support staff, executing search warrants issued by the Special Judge for Vigilance in Jeypore across seven locations in Malkangiri, Cuttack, and Bhubaneswar.
