BMC issues warning against obscene dance at Khandagiri Jatra

Bhubaneswar, Feb 3: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a stern warning regarding the display of obscene dance performances during the upcoming Khandagiri Jatra in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
In a bid to maintain the cultural integrity and dignity of the event, the BMC has instructed the organizers to adhere strictly to traditional guidelines. BMC Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil emphasized that any violation of these rules will result in strict action against the offenders.
All Yatra committees have been urged to stage their performances in line with the established norms, ensuring that the historical significance of the festival is upheld.
This warning comes in the wake of a recent incident in Bhadrak, where an inappropriate performance led to controversy when a woman threw a shoe during a Jatra performance, which coincided with Kali Puja celebrations. Although the performance was paused temporarily, the organizing committee managed to resume the show after some deliberation.
The BMC aims to prevent similar incidents and ensure that the Khandagiri Jatra remains a respectful and culturally rich celebration.
