Odisha procures over 26 lakh tons of paddy, pays Rs 7,379 crore to farmers

Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: The Odisha government has procured 26,28,228 tons of paddy this season and disbursed Rs 7,379 crore to farmers, Food and Supplies Minister Krishna Chandra Patra announced on Monday. The payments include Rs 1,904 crore provided as input subsidy to support farmers.
A total of 4,99,778 farmers have received payments for their paddy so far, showcasing the government’s commitment to ensuring timely disbursement. However, the minister acknowledged challenges in the process, including insufficient paddy analyzers at mandis across the state. “We plan to bring more analyzers in the future to streamline the process and purchase more paddy from farmers,” Patra said.
The minister also addressed administrative lapses, confirming the suspension of the Marketing Inspector (MI) of Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district for dereliction of duty. He emphasized that strict action would be taken against anyone failing in their responsibilities.
The state government remains focused on enhancing procurement mechanisms and supporting farmers through efficient policies and interventions.
