ATM vandalized and set on fire during nighttime heist in Dhenkanal

Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: In a brazen heist on Wednesday night, miscreants broke into a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM located near Panchubati under the Sadar police station in Dhenkanal district, stealing a substantial amount of cash. To eliminate evidence, the robbers vandalized the ATM by breaking its CCTV camera and hard disk before setting the machine ablaze.
Prompt police action led to the arrest of two suspects who were apprehended in a vehicle near the Motanga police station area. However, several accomplices managed to escape with the stolen cash in a separate vehicle, successfully eluding law enforcement.
The police are actively pursuing the remaining suspects, who are believed to be heading toward Sambalpur. Officers have formed a dedicated team to track down the fugitives and recover the stolen money. The incident has raised concerns about ATM security in the region, prompting authorities to review safety measures to prevent such criminal activities in the future. Investigations are ongoing as police work to apprehend all involved in the crime.
