BJD protests over price rise and inflation

Bhubaneswar, Jan 6: Leaders of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), led by party president and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik, staged a massive protest in Bhubaneswar on Monday, targeting the Mohan Majhi government in Odisha for rising inflation and price hikes. The dharna was held at the Lower PMG, drawing party workers and leaders from across the state.
Addressing the gathering, Patnaik expressed gratitude to supporters for braving the cold weather to join the protest. “Since the BJP government came to power in June, all we’ve heard are long speeches, but there has been no real action. Prices of essential goods, from groceries to medicines, are skyrocketing, and life has become unbearable for the common man,” he said.
Patnaik accused the state government of being disconnected from the people and failing to control the market. Highlighting the plight of farmers, he added, “Unseasonal rains have destroyed crops, and farmers are driven to suicide daily. Mothers are crying, farmers are crying, but the government remains in deep sleep.”
He further criticized the rising GST on essential items, claiming it disproportionately impacts the poor. “The BJP promised a rosy future, but the reality is grim. Only the collective voice of 4.5 crore Odias will expose the truth,” Patnaik asserted.
The protest marks a significant escalation in political opposition as the BJD continues to pressurize the Majhi government over governance and economic issues.
