Bhubaneswar, Jan 3: In a tragic incident at Purunakatak in the Boudh district on Friday, a woman named Bisnupriya Meher lost her life after being engulfed in flames while cooking. The unfortunate event also left her husband, Sribant Meher, critically injured. 

Bisnupriya, a dedicated school teacher, was in the kitchen when the fire broke out. Hearing his wife's desperate screams, Sribant, the sarpanch of Banibhusanpur panchayat, rushed to her aid, only to suffer severe burns himself.

Despite immediate assistance, Bisnupriya succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Sribant was initially taken to the Purunakatak Community Health Centre, then transferred to the Boudh District Headquarters Hospital due to his critical condition. He was later referred to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for further treatment.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the police have sent Bisnupriya's body for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The community is in shock over this heartbreaking loss.
