OMFED contractual drivers’ strike disrupts milk supply in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, Dec 24: Milk supply in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar was severely disrupted on Tuesday as contractual drivers of OMFED (Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation) went on strike. The protest began at the Naraj plant after Baranga police detained a driver accused of theft.
According to reports, the plant authorities lodged a complaint after discovering over 100 liters of milk in the accused driver’s van a few days ago. Following his detention, his colleagues staged a demonstration at the plant, bringing milk distribution to a standstill across the region.
OMFED Managing Director Vijay Amruta Kulange clarified that the disruption was caused by the drivers’ protest and not by any issues at the plant itself. He explained that the detained driver had been caught stealing milk packets, prompting the company to file an FIR, leading to his arrest.
The strike has caused inconvenience to thousands of households, with efforts underway to restore normal supply and address the grievances of the striking drivers.
