Online gaming turns fatal for youth in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Dec 5: A 22-year-old youth, identified as Sasanka Sekhar Satapathy, reportedly ended his life by hanging himself at his residence near Tinimundia Chhak under the Lingaraja police limits on Thursday.
Sasanka was discovered hanging from the ceiling of his home. Family members immediately brought him down and rushed him to Capital Hospital in critical condition. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Upon receiving information, a team from Lingaraja police reached the hospital and initiated an investigation. A case has been registered, and the police have seized Sasanka’s mobile phone for further examination.
Initial investigations suggest that Sasanka faced significant financial losses due to an online gaming addiction. Reports indicate he borrowed money from multiple people to fund his gaming activities, which likely worsened his financial stress.
The police are probing the extent of his debts and the role of online gaming in his untimely death. This tragic incident highlights growing concerns over online gaming addiction and its psychological impact.
