Leopard found dead in Nayagarh forest; electrocution suspected

Bhubaneswar, Dec 4: A leopard carcass was discovered near the Budhijhari protected forest area under the Singhapada section in Nayagarh district, raising concerns about wildlife safety.
Although the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed, initial investigations suggest the leopard may have died due to electrocution from a live wire, allegedly set up by poachers to trap wild boars. This method of illegal hunting has become a growing menace in the region.
Upon receiving information, officials from the Khandapada forest division arrived at the site to conduct a preliminary investigation. Samples from the leopard’s body have been sent for detailed examination to determine the precise cause and circumstances of death.
The incident has alarmed wildlife experts and conservationists, highlighting the increasing threat of illegal poaching and electrocution inside Odisha's protected forests. The Nayagarh forest division officer assured strict action against those responsible and emphasized the need for enhanced surveillance to curb such practices and safeguard wildlife.
