Newborn girl rescued near RTO-1 in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Nov 29: A newborn girl, suspected to have been abandoned by her mother, was given a second chance at life after being rescued by compassionate slum dwellers near Regional Transport Office (RTO)-1, Acharya Vihar, Bhubaneswar.
The baby was discovered lying unattended at around 2 AM on Friday night and was immediately cared for by the residents before they informed the police in the morning.
An eyewitness recounted the heart-wrenching moment: “I woke up around 3:30 AM to attend to nature’s call when I heard a baby crying in the cold. I found her shivering and immediately cleaned and wrapped her in warm clothes. The baby’s umbilical cord had not even fallen.”
The slum dwellers’ timely intervention saved the infant, who was later handed over to the authorities. Police have launched an investigation to trace the mother and understand the circumstances leading to the abandonment. The incident has stirred emotional responses, highlighting the importance of community care and vigilance.
