Vigilance raids reveal massive wealth of Odisha police housing official

Bhubaneswar, Nov 18: Odisha Vigilance officials on Monday uncovered significant assets, including two multi-storied buildings, around 1 kg of gold, four prime plots, ₹13 lakh in cash, a benami car, and other valuables during simultaneous raids on properties linked to Subash Chandra Panda, Deputy General Manager (Civil) of the Odisha State Police Housing Welfare Corporation, Berhampur Division.
In a dramatic turn of events, Panda allegedly threw ₹10 lakh from his triple-storied building onto a neighbor’s terrace upon spotting the Vigilance team. However, the cash was recovered by officials.
The unearthed assets include a triple-storied building on a 4,000 sq ft plot in Mahadev Vihar, Shankarpur, Bhubaneswar; a double-storied building in Panda's native village of Barimunda, Bhubaneswar; and four high-value plots in prime areas of the city. The Vigilance Technical Wing is currently measuring and assessing the value of these properties.
The raids were initiated following allegations of Panda amassing disproportionate assets. They were carried out by teams comprising five DSPs, seven inspectors, and other staff, based on search warrants issued by the Special Judge (Vigilance), Bhubaneswar. The searches are ongoing, and further details are awaited.
