Army Officer Assault Case : Justice Chittaranjan Das Commission Tenure Extended

Bhubaneswar: The tenure of Justice Chittaranjan Das has been extended by the Commission of Inquiry investigating the case of police abuse of an army major and his fiancée in Bharatpur police station. It has been extended till 31 January 2025. A statutory notification has been issued today by the home department of the state government.
The tenure of Justice Chittaranjan Das of the Informative Inquiry Commission which was ending on November 22.
In the Bharatpur case, the commission headed by Justice Chit Ranjan Das started the process of taking testimony after examining more than 500 documents filed in the case.
It is worth mentioning that on the night of last September 14th, there was an allegation of police abuse of an army major and his constable in Bharatpur police station. A complaint was filed against the IIC of the police station for assaulting the Major and his fiancée at night when he went to complain. In the incident, the then police station IIC Dinakrishna Mishra and 4 police officers were suspended from their jobs. The crime branch continues to investigate the incident. In addition to this, a commission of inquiry has also been constituted for the speedy investigation of the incident.
