Police detain two over theft and gang-rape incident in Maitri Vihar
Bhubaneswar, Oct 2: Maitri Vihar police have detained two individuals on Wednesday in connection with a theft and gang-rape that occurred in an apartment under their jurisdiction on Sunday night.
Over the past two days, police conducted raids at various hideouts in the city, leading to the detention of two suspects. While their identities have not yet been disclosed, police are interrogating them regarding the crime.
The incident unfolded when two burglars broke into the apartment with the intent to steal. After taking valuables, they discovered the woman alone with her two-year-old child. Brandishing a bhujali (knife), the robbers threatened to kill the child if she raised an alarm. They then took turns sexually assaulting her.
Traumatized but determined, the woman filed a police complaint at Maitri Vihar station on Tuesday, sparking the investigation.
