Thieves target jewellery shop in Gajapati, house in Deogarh; gold and cash stolen

Bhubaneswar, Sept 26: In a daring robbery, bike-borne miscreants looted a jewellery shop in Mohana market, Gajapati district, escaping with gold jewellery weighing around one kilogram, along with silver ornaments and a substantial amount of cash on Wednesday night.
Reports indicate that the shop owner, Mohan Rao Achary, closed his shop around 9 PM but mistakenly left a bag containing valuable items outside. The miscreants, arriving on a bike, seized the bag containing 1 kg of gold, 5 kg of silver, and Rs. 70,000 in cash before fleeing the scene.
Achary filed a complaint at the Mohana police station, prompting police to launch an investigation. Authorities are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify and apprehend the culprits.
In a separate incident on the same night, burglars targeted a house in Singhasal village under Barkote police station in Deogarh district. The miscreants stole 200 grams of gold jewellery, silver ornaments, and Rs. 95,500 in cash.
The house owner, Khetrabasi Dalabehera, had taken his wife, Yajnaseni Pradhan, to Rourkela for medical treatment. Seizing the opportunity, the thieves broke into the empty house during the day. Dalabehera lodged a complaint with the Barkote police, and an investigation is currently underway.
