Probe ordered into alleged use of iron vessels for Mahaprasad at Jagannath Temple
Bhubaneswar, Sept 13: The Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, has ordered an investigation into allegations of Mahaprasad, the sacred offering to Lord Jagannath, being prepared in an iron 'kadhai' instead of the traditional clay pots. Padhee has directed officials to submit a detailed action-taken report within a week.
The probe follows complaints that a steel vessel was used for Mahaprasad preparation, which goes against the temple’s long-established customs. The investigation will include the iron 'kadhai' allegedly used, which has been seized. Sura, Mahasuara, Roshpaik Nijog, and Rosh Amin have been tasked with enforcing the directive.
A three-member team, including Pattjoshi Mohapatra, Talichcha Mohapatra, and Deulkaran, has been appointed to inspect the Srimandir Roshasala (temple kitchen) thoroughly. The Suar and Mahasuara Niyoga had previously objected to this deviation, writing to the temple administration.
Dr. Padhee emphasized that any deviation from traditional practices would not be tolerated, reaffirming the commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of Shree Jagannath Temple. The use of iron vessels reportedly began during the COVID-19 pandemic due to a shortage of clay pots.
