Betnoti police capture cough syrup racket, arrest three
Bhubaneswar, Sept 11: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Betnoti police dismantled a major contraband operation, seizing a large quantity of CODILUS-T cough syrup being smuggled in a car on NH-18 near Thana Chhaka.
The police apprehended three individuals: Muna Naik, Debabrata Rout, and Uttam Naik. They seized 839 bottles of CODILUS-T Cough Syrup, valued at Rs. 1.41 lakh, along with three mobile phones, Rs. 839 in cash, and an Innova car used for transportation.
CODILUS-T Cough Syrup contains Codeine, a narcotic drug and psychotropic substance. Acting on reliable information, a police team led by IIC Inspector Sasmita Mahanta intercepted the vehicle and discovered seven cartons of the cough syrup.
The detainees could not provide valid licenses or documents for the possession and transportation of the contraband, confirming the presence of NDPS materials. The contraband was being transported from Balasore to Baripada.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. The seized items have been handed over to the Tehsildar and Drugs Inspector, who were called to the scene in response to the police requisition.
