Odisha mobilizes forces to combat flood crisis in Malkangiri and Koraput

Bhubaneswar, Sept 9: Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja chaired a meeting on Monday to review the state's preparedness for dealing with the flood situation in Malkangiri and Koraput, following incessant rains since Saturday.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including the DC-cum-ACS of Water Resources, the ADG of Law & Order, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), and senior officers from OSDMA and other departments.
In response to the situation, the state government has deputed DG (Fire Services & Home Guards) Sundhansu Sarangi, Principal Secretary Bishnupada Sethi, and DIG (Southern Division) Charan Meena to assist the Malkangiri district administration in restoring normalcy.
According to a press communiqué issued by the SRC, floodwaters are overflowing bridges along Pangam to Motu Road in Malkangiri, disrupting road communication at eight locations. Six villages in Malkangiri and Kalimela blocks have been affected, with 504 people evacuated and sheltered in four relief camps. Two ODRAF units have been deployed in the district.
In Koraput, 36 villages across Jeypore, Boipariguda, Kundra, Borigumma, Semiliguda, and Koraput blocks have been impacted, with road communication cut off at six locations. A total of 56 people have been relocated to two relief camps and provided with cooked meals.
Currently, six ODRAF units are deployed in Malkangiri, with additional units stationed in Koraput, Jeypore, Rayagada, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Boudh, and Bolangir. Twelve more teams are on standby for five coastal and nearby districts, including Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, and Boudh.
