Odisha to begin new ration card distribution in September

Bhubaneswar, Sept 4: Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra announced in the Assembly on Wednesday that the distribution of new ration cards in the state will begin in September.
Patra mentioned that the e-KYC verification process for sanctioning new ration cards is currently underway across the state. “Over nine lakh people have applied for new ration cards so far, and we expect the issuance process to be completed by September,” Patra stated.
In July, the minister had indicated that the government would remove all ineligible beneficiaries from the list of ration card holders under the Food Security Act. The government has established 12 criteria for including eligible families in the schemes under the Act and 10 criteria for excluding ineligible ones.
Department officials have been instructed to eliminate any ineligible beneficiaries from the list to ensure that only deserving families receive ration cards. “To guarantee the accuracy and transparency of the public distribution system, e-KYC audits will be conducted to verify the details provided by applicants. Additionally, our officers will conduct door-to-door surveys to confirm eligible beneficiaries,” the minister added.
