Odisha Assembly adjourned amidst BJD protest over halted development works

Bhubaneswar, Aug 29: Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy on Thursday adjourned the House proceedings until 4:00 pm following a chaotic uproar by opposition BJD legislators, who claimed that all development works had come to a halt in the state’s 314 blocks.
The disruption began after the Question Hour when BJD MLAs Arun Sahu and Ganeshwar Behera raised concerns about the cessation of development activities across the state. They demanded an explanation from the government regarding who had issued the directive to stop these works. The legislators submitted adjournment notices over the issue, but the Speaker refused to accept them, triggering further unrest.
In protest, the BJD legislators gathered in front of the Speaker’s podium, leading to a noisy ruckus in the House. Despite Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling’s appeal for calm, the MLAs continued their protest, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the House until 4:00 pm.
