Odisha Assembly stalemate continues as opposition protests reservation issue

Bhubaneswar, Aug 24: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday amid a ruckus by opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress members over the reservation issue.
Despite the Speaker’s repeated efforts to restore order, the Assembly remained in disarray, forcing an adjournment until 4 pm.
Reports indicate that the Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes during Zero Hour, with BJD and Congress MLAs protesting against the government’s handling of the reservation issue. The opposition members disrupted proceedings by shouting slogans, hurling leaflets, and demanding a discussion on the matter. Additionally, two BJD members were reportedly seen climbing onto the podium, further disrupting the session.
The Speaker was compelled to adjourn the House as the commotion continued, despite the Opposition’s persistent calls for a debate on the issue.
The BJP condemned the behavior of the BJD MLAs, accusing them of disrespecting the Speaker and disrupting the Assembly's functioning. The party demanded an apology from the Opposition, calling their actions unprecedented and unacceptable.
