Heavy rainfall predicted in Odisha as low-pressure system strengthens

Bhubaneswar, Aug 16: A low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent West Bengal is likely to intensify, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This system is expected to move west-northwest across Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand over the next 2-3 days.
Since Thursday night, several parts of the state have been experiencing light to moderate rain and thunderstorms. The IMD has forecasted that this rainfall activity will persist for the next 24 hours, potentially disrupting normal life in some regions.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for 12 districts: Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Balasore, and Bhadrak. Heavy rain is possible in some areas within these districts, with up to 11 centimeters of rain expected on Friday.
For Saturday, heavy rain is anticipated in the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak, with rainfall amounts ranging from 7 to 11 centimeters. Consequently, a yellow warning has been issued for these nine districts. The IMD advises residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
