Bitti Hottra Mohanty, convicted for rape of German tourist, dies of cancer

Bhubaneswar, Aug 12: Bitti Hottra Mohanty, son of former DGP (Prison) Bidya Bhusan Mohanty, who was convicted of raping a German tourist in Rajasthan's Alwar in 2006, succumbed to stomach cancer at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar late Sunday night.
Reports indicate that Bitti Hottra passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Hospital authorities confirmed on Monday that he was suffering from stomach cancer and died around midnight on Sunday.
Bitti Hottra was admitted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar in June this year after experiencing bleeding and had been receiving treatment since then. He was initially convicted by the Fast Track Trial Court in Alwar just 15 days after his arrest on April 12, 2006, for the rape of a German tourist.
After being granted parole citing his mother’s ill health, Bitti Hottra absconded. In 2013, Kerala Police re-arrested him after local bank officials alerted them that he had used falsified documents to secure a bank job in Thiruvananthapuram.
