Bhubaneswar, Aug 12: A tragic lightning strike in Odisha's Puri district on Monday morning resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to seven others. 

The victim, identified as Kunti Bhoi, aged 45, succumbed to her injuries while being treated at the Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). The incident occurred in the Chaitana Bhoi Sahi area when lightning struck eight villagers who were engaged in agricultural activities.

The injured individuals were promptly transported to Puri DHH by local residents. Despite medical efforts, Kunti Bhoi could not be saved and passed away at the hospital. The area has been experiencing severe weather conditions, with heavy rainfall and frequent lightning since early Monday morning. The intense weather has contributed to the hazardous conditions leading to this unfortunate incident. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and providing assistance to the affected families.
