Odisha Assembly session adjourned amid opposition uproar

Bhubaneswar, July 24: The third day of the Assembly session was marked by chaos as members of the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress disrupted proceedings.
Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the House until 4 pm after an all-party meeting failed to resolve the deadlock.
Sources indicate that despite efforts to break the stalemate, the Odisha Assembly session remained paralyzed, with the Speaker initially adjourning the House until noon and later extending the adjournment to 4 pm.
The commotion began during the question hour, with BJD members walking out of the House. Congress members then entered the center of the House, raising slogans, prompting Speaker Surama Padhy to adjourn the House until 11:30 am initially.
To address the impasse, Speaker Padhy convened an all-party meeting. Attendees included opposition leader Prasanna Acharya, opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik, Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahalinga, and BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra. However, the meeting did not yield any resolution, leading to a prolonged adjournment.
The Opposition has been vocal in criticizing the Mohan Majhi government, accusing it of protecting the Governor’s son in an assault case involving a government official, according to sources.
