Low-pressure system to bring continued rainfall to Odisha
Bhubaneswar, July 18: A low-pressure area is expected to form over the West Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining East-West Central Bay of Bengal, prolonging rainfall until July 23.
Today, a yellow warning has been issued for heavy rainfall in seven districts. Tomorrow, six districts face a yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall, while twelve districts are warned of heavy rainfall. Similar conditions are anticipated on July 20 and 21.
Reports suggest that heavy rainfall in Odisha may lead to a flood-like situation in Southern Odisha, with over 100 mm of rainfall predicted. In response, the State Relief Commissioner (SRC) has instructed District Administrators in warned areas to prepare for potential natural disasters.
Concerns include potential waterlogging in urban and flood-prone areas, which could affect roads and drainage systems. Accordingly, administrations have reportedly been advised to proactively clean drainage systems and ensure sufficient pumps are available for water disposal.
