Odisha braces for extended wet spell

Bhubaneswar, July 8: In the past 24 hours, widespread rainfall has occurred across most areas, with Keonjhar recording the highest rainfall at 123 mm, according to the Meteorological Department on Monday.
The latest weather bulletin forecasts light to moderate rainfall for the next five days, gradually decreasing starting tomorrow. Thunderstorms are expected along the coastal regions of Odisha.
Rainfall intensity is expected to increase again after July 11. Today, Puri will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate showers. From June 1 till date, the region has received 26% less rainfall than normal, with expected rainfall at 285.8 mm, but actual recorded rainfall stands at 210.6 mm.
The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain in Koraput and Malkangiri districts. Heavy rainfall warnings are also in place for South Odisha's Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur districts today.
With the Southwest Monsoon active over the state, rain will continue in various parts over the next five days. A yellow warning has been issued for heavy rain today in 10 districts including Puri. Malkangiri has reported above-normal rainfall, while 11 districts have seen normal and 16 districts below-normal rainfall. The Meteorological Department reports heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts.
