CCTV and GPS systems to overhaul paddy procurement process in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 29: On Saturday, the state government announced plans to install CCTV cameras in all paddy procurement centers and equip vehicles transporting paddy with GPS systems. This initiative aims to ensure seamless and transparent transportation of paddy.
CCTV cameras will monitor paddy movement within the mandis, while GPS systems will provide real-time tracking of the vehicles transporting paddy to millers. This technology will help authorities verify efficient and legitimate transportation.
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra revealed the plan, stating, "To enhance transparency and prevent corruption, the state government will install CCTV cameras in all mandis and GPS systems in vehicles transporting paddy from mandis to mills. This technology will prevent corruption and ensure transparency in paddy transportation. District collectors have been informed, and the plan will be implemented within two months. Additionally, cold storage facilities will be established in every block."
The installation of these cameras is expected to address long-standing issues faced by farmers, such as irregularities in weighing and delayed payments.
