Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das resigns after Odisha election defeat

Bhubaneswar, June 10: Senior Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das has reportedly resigned from his position as Campaign Committee Chairman following the party's poor performance in the recent Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha.
In a letter to Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), Das expressed his gratitude for being appointed to the role on March 22, 2024, stating, "I am really grateful that the party reposed faith in me."
Das highlighted his efforts, saying, "I worked hard to contribute my best but unfortunately we failed to come up to the expectations. We really appreciate the kind support and cooperation received from the Hon’ble Congress President, Former President Sri Rahul Gandhi Ji, and other senior leaders of AICC during the election."
Taking responsibility for the party's performance, Das added, "I take the moral responsibility for failing to secure the expected number of seats in both the Assembly and Parliament elections in Odisha. Therefore, I hereby resign from the post of Chairman, Campaign Committee, Odisha."
It is noteworthy that the Congress party secured only 1 of the 21 Lok Sabha seats and 14 of the 147 Assembly seats in Odisha.
