President Murmu offers sympathies to families, hope for Puri blast victims' recovery

Bhubaneswar, May 30: President Droupadi Murmu extended her condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the swift recovery of those injured in the Puri firecracker explosion incident.
Through her official handle, Murmu conveyed her deep sadness regarding the loss of lives during the Chandan Yatra in Puri, expressing heartfelt sympathies to the affected families and hoping for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Eyewitnesses reported that sparks from the exploded crackers descended onto a stack of crackers situated on the Devi Ghat side of the pond, triggering a significant explosion. As a result, devotees present at the pond to observe the water sports of the Holy Trinity suffered severe burns.
Tragically, the explosion during the 'Chapa Khela' of Lord Jagannath and his siblings claimed the lives of three individuals, including a minor boy, while leaving 35 devotees critically injured. Despite medical efforts, the minor boy passed away from burn injuries at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, while two others succumbed to their injuries in private hospitals in Bhubaneswar.
Currently, 35 individuals are undergoing treatment across nine different hospitals in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and Puri.
