Tragic drowning claims life of five-year-old girl in Jajpur

Jajpur, May 2: Tragedy struck when a five-year-old girl, identified as Soni Mallick from Balakati village in Kendrapara district, reportedly drowned in the Kharasrota river at Jari village, under the jurisdiction of the Binjharpur police station in Jajpur district today.
Soni had accompanied her mother on a visit to her uncle's village. While Soni's mother went to the river for a bath this morning, she left Soni playing on the riverbank. Tragically, Soni ventured into the river and was swept away by the strong current before her mother could react.
Upon noticing her daughter's absence, Soni's mother raised an alarm, prompting villagers to rush to the scene. They managed to rescue Soni from the river, but she was in critical condition. Despite being rushed to the local hospital, she was declared dead upon arrival by the doctors.
Binjharpur police, informed of the incident, arrived at the hospital, seized Soni's body, and initiated postmortem proceedings. A case of unnatural death was registered by the police.
The untimely demise of Soni has deeply saddened the community, with condolences pouring in from all quarters for the grieving family.
