Notorious criminal captured after firefight in Odisha raid
Dhenkanal, April 29: Early on Monday morning, in a daring raid conducted by Kamakhyanagar police in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, one notorious criminal, Subash Khuntia alias Bubuna (30), with a staggering record of over 18 cases across various police stations, was apprehended after an intense exchange of gunfire.
The operation unfolded around 5:30 am when the police received intelligence indicating that Khuntia and his cohorts had convened in the Khuntaposi jungle near the Ramiala River to plot an extortion scheme involving firearms and explosives.
Upon swiftly acting on this information, the police raided the location, prompting the criminals to launch explosives at the approaching officers. In a measured response aimed at self-defense, the police fired two rounds. Subsequently, Khuntia was captured at the scene, and a significant cache of items, including a homemade pistol, live ammunition, spent casings, cash, a crude bomb, and a machete, were seized. However, two accomplices managed to evade capture, prompting ongoing efforts for their apprehension.
Khuntia sustained injuries during the altercation and has been hospitalized at the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment. Additionally, one police constable sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.
