Bhubaneswar hits 41.2°C: Heat wave grips Odisha, no respite predicted

Bhubaneswar, April 15: Monday saw a gradual rise in daytime temperatures, with a noon that felt like fire raining from the sky. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), four locations in Odisha recorded temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius by 2:30 pm, with Bhubaneswar hitting a high of 41.2°C at that time.
Amidst the prevailing hot and humid conditions, areas experiencing blistering heat wave conditions at 2:30 pm included Chandbali (41.1°C), Jharsuguda (41°C), Balasore (40°C), Hirakud (39.5°C), Sambalpur (39.4°C), Rourkela (39.2°C), Keonjhar (39.8°C), Gopalpur (35.5°C), Paradip (35.5°C), and Puri (35°C).
Bhubaneswar, suffering from acute heat wave conditions, is attributed to extensive deforestation and rapid urbanization, much to the dismay of environmental activists.
Meanwhile, the regional IMD center in Bhubaneswar has cautioned that there will be no relief from the scorching heat in the upcoming week, with temperatures likely to surpass 40°C in several places across the state.
According to the latest IMD forecast, temperatures are expected to rise by four to six degrees Celsius over the next six days in various districts of Odisha.
