Man arrested for allegedly murdering pregnant girlfriend in Barbil

Bhubaneswar, April 13: The Barbil police have apprehended a suspect in connection with the killing of his pregnant girlfriend, whose body was discovered in the Soyabali forest under Barbil police jurisdiction on April 5th.
The accused has been identified as Satyaban Behera.
Sources indicate that despite being married to two women, the accused purportedly engaged in a romantic relationship with a girl from Koida in Sundargarh district. Satyaban is said to have entered into an illicit relationship with the girl under the false promise of marriage, resulting in her pregnancy.
When pressured by his girlfriend for marriage, Satyaban allegedly devised a plan to eliminate her. On April 5th, he persuaded the girl to elope with him. Subsequently, they sought refuge in a temple where they stayed for the night.
In the early hours of April 5th, the accused reportedly took his girlfriend to a forest near Jateswar temple and fatally slit her throat as part of his scheme.
To stage the incident as a suicide, Satyaban then hung his girlfriend's body from a tree before fleeing the scene. The police discovered the victim's body in the forest on April 9th and proceeded to conduct a post-mortem examination.
Following Satyaban's arrest, law enforcement officers escorted the suspect to the forest to reconstruct the crime scene. Meanwhile, Satyaban has been presented before the court as part of the legal proceedings.
