IMD warns of heatwave in Odisha as temperatures set to soar

Bhubaneswar, April 12: After recording the coldest April day on Thursday, interior areas of Odisha are bracing for a heatwave.
The India Meteorological Department's regional center predicts a significant rise in temperatures over the next four days, with daytime temperatures expected to soar by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius. Dry air from the west and northwest is anticipated to intensify the heat, possibly pushing temperatures to 43-44 degrees Celsius by April 17.
Umasankar Das, a senior scientist at IMD Bhubaneswar, explained that a trough in the middle and upper atmosphere had led to cloudy conditions in Odisha recently. However, from April 13 onwards, temperatures are expected to climb rapidly, with coastal regions likely to experience higher humidity.
Despite Thursday's cloudy skies, strong winds, and scattered light rain, the mercury remained relatively stable. However, the influence of a western disturbance led to light rainfall activities in ten districts.
