Rock falls from temple roof at Puri Jagannath temple

Puri, March 9: Early Saturday morning saw a rock plummet from the Ekadashi temple adjacent to Maa Bimala temple within the revered Puri Jagannath Temple complex.
Measuring 10 inches in length and 5 inches in width, the dislodged rock caused damage to the tin roof of the Ekadashi temple. Fortunately, the incident occurred when there were no devotees present, averting any casualties.
Promptly notified by the Srimandir Commander, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) swiftly retrieved the fallen rock for further investigation.
Initial suspicions point to the possibility of monkey interference, a recurring concern in the temple precincts. However, a conclusive determination awaits the outcome of the ASI's inquiry.
Despite ASI's custodianship dating back to 1975, such occurrences have regrettably been reported multiple times, casting shadows on the maintenance of the 12th-century shrine.
