Two arrested in Dhenkanal teen's murder case

Dhenkanal, March 6: Two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the alleged murder of a 17-year-old college student, whose lifeless body was discovered in a wooded area on the outskirts of Dhenkanal town in Odisha last month.

The arrested suspects are identified as Bijay Behera (35) and Narayan Sahoo (25), both hailing from Khajuri hamlet in Mangalpur. Authorities have also confiscated the blood-stained stone believed to be the murder weapon, as well as the clothing worn by the accused.

Dhenkanal SP Madkar Sandeep Sampat revealed that the duo fatally assaulted the girl by pelting her with stones, harboring long-standing grievances against her father. Narayan, a relative of the victim, additionally had a land dispute with her father. "CCTV footage indicates that Bijay transported the girl on his motorcycle from Dhenkanal town to the forest on February 29, where Narayan and his accomplices lay in wait. Upon their arrival, the trio bludgeoned her with a stone, resulting in her immediate demise," he explained.

The third perpetrator implicated in the crime remains at large.
