Angul resident loses Rs 38 lakh in trading app scam

Angul, Feb 21: A resident of Angul district fell victim to cyber fraudsters, losing a total of Rs 38 lakh through investments made on a trading app.
As per the Angul cyber police, SP Mishra, residing on the outskirts of Angul town in Ganjan district, discovered a WhatsApp group advertised on Facebook approximately two months ago. Enticed by promises of investment training for trading apps, Mishra joined the group and attended several training sessions, which bolstered his confidence.
Subsequently, he initiated investments in two accounts: one under his wife's name, totaling Rs 25.40 lakh in phased transactions, and another under his own name, amounting to Rs 12.80 lakh.
Upon attempting to withdraw his invested funds, Mishra found his accounts depleted of any money. Sensing foul play, he promptly disengaged from the WhatsApp group and reported the incident to the cyber police station.
This incident comes in the wake of another individual from Angul district losing Rs 62 lakh to a similar trading app scam just last week, underscoring the prevalence and severity of cyber fraud in the region.
