Orissa High Court defers bail hearing of suspended Choudwar Jail Superintendent
Bhubaneswar, Nov 4: The Orissa High Court has deferred the hearing of the regular bail application filed by suspended Choudwar Circle Jail Senior Superintendent Sujit Kumar Raul. The matter is likely to be taken up next week.
A single-judge bench of Justice Aditya Kumar Mohapatra, while hearing Raul’s bail petition, directed the State Government to produce the case diary and submit an update on the progress of the investigation during the next hearing.
Earlier, on August 29, the High Court had rejected Raul’s anticipatory bail plea. Subsequently, Choudwar police arrested him on September 21 and produced him before the court.
Following the rejection of his bail application by the Tangi-Choudwar Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court, Raul approached the Sessions Court. However, the Additional Sessions Judge, Cuttack, who also functions as the Special Vigilance Court, rejected his plea on September 30. He then moved the High Court seeking regular bail.
The case originated from a complaint lodged by the former Jailer of Choudwar Circle Jail following the escape of two prisoners. Raul has been accused of tampering with official records and criminal misconduct. The complaint specifically alleged that the Jailer’s signature was forged in the ‘Superintendent Minute Book’ on October 2, 2025.
