Bhubaneswar, July 28: In two shocking incidents reported from different parts of Odisha on the same day, two elderly men were allegedly murdered by their sons following family disputes, sending shockwaves across the state and highlighting growing concerns over domestic violence and family conflicts.

The first incident took place in Bhubaneswar's Chakeisiani area under the Mancheswar police limits. According to police, a man was allegedly killed by his son after a dispute at their residence near Manchanath High School. Local residents alerted the police after discovering the victim lying in a pool of blood. A Mancheswar police team rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to Capital Hospital for post-mortem examination. The accused son has been detained and is being questioned to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the alleged murder.

In another gruesome incident in Sambalpur district, 65-year-old Dhaneshwar Bhoi of Manapali village under Kuchinda police station allegedly lost his life after being attacked by his son, Gobinda Bhoi (45).

According to reports, an argument broke out between the father and son on Monday night. Later, while Dhaneshwar was asleep, Gobinda allegedly attacked him with an axe, causing grievous injuries. The victim was initially admitted to Kuchinda Hospital and later referred to VIMSAR, Burla, for advanced treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries while being shifted in a 108 ambulance near Laida. His body has been kept at Laida Hospital for post-mortem.

Kuchinda police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Police officials are probing the circumstances and motives behind both incidents, which have sparked widespread concern over the rising incidence of violent family disputes in the state.
