Odisha warns of rice supply halt for non-KYC ration card holders
Bhubaneswar, Oct 14: The Odisha government has issued a stern warning that rice distribution to beneficiaries who have not completed the Aadhaar-based Know Your Customer (KYC) verification for ration cards will be suspended. Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra made the announcement on Tuesday, emphasizing the urgency of completing the e-KYC process to continue availing benefits under the public distribution system (PDS).
According to the minister, around 15.67 lakh beneficiaries across the state have yet to complete the e-KYC process despite several reminders and awareness campaigns. “The Union government has stopped the e-KYC process. In our state, 15.67 lakh beneficiaries have failed to complete it. They will not receive rice from next month onwards,” Patra cautioned.
He added that the state government would reconsider its decision if the Centre decides to extend the deadline for completing the process. Beneficiaries who have missed the deadline may also submit written requests for review, he stated. The initiative aims to curb duplication, ensure transparency, and guarantee that subsidized food grains reach genuine beneficiaries.
