Notorious drug peddler injured in police encounter in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, April 11: In a dramatic late-night encounter at Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, notorious brown sugar peddler Sheikh Jamshed sustained a gunshot injury during an operation led by the Special Crime Unit of the Commissionerate Police.
The operation, spearheaded by officer Anup Kanungo, was the culmination of ongoing surveillance on Jamshed, who had long been on the police radar for his involvement in narcotics smuggling.
According to police sources, Jamshed was travelling from Pokhariput to Khandagiri when officers moved in to apprehend him. However, instead of surrendering, he allegedly opened fire on the approaching team. In the retaliatory action by the police, Jamshed was shot in the leg. He was immediately shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for treatment, where his condition is reported to be stable.
Jamshed had multiple cases pending against him at Lalbag, Balianta, and Badagada police stations, and had previously been arrested by the Crime Branch’s Special Task Force. Police recovered brown sugar worth ₹20 lakh and a mouser pistol from his possession, further cementing his link to organized drug trafficking in the region.
