Odisha's intense campaigning for phase two elections comes to a close

Bhubaneswar, May 18: The high-intensity campaigning for the second phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha concluded today.

A total of 40 candidates are contesting for five Lok Sabha seats, while 265 candidates are vying for 35 Assembly seats. Approximately 7,962,148 voters are set to cast their ballots in this phase of elections scheduled for May 20.

In the final hours of campaigning, top leaders from the BJD and the opposition BJP made last-ditch efforts to attract voters. Voting will take place in the Lok Sabha constituencies of Balangir, Bargarh, Sundergarh, Kandhamal, and Aska.

Prominent contenders in this phase include Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, former Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, former Indian hockey captain Dilip Tirkey, former Union Minister and hotelier Dilip Ray, Achyuta Samanta, Niranjan Pujari, Pradip Amat, and BJP’s four-time Lok Sabha member Sangeeta Singh Deo.

As the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election and the second phase for Odisha approaches, key figures such as Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi have already been actively campaigning to garner support for their parties.

On the last day of the campaign, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is set to address the public in Banai, Sundergarh, and Rajgangpur.
