Congress releases first list of candidates for Lok Sabha, Assembly polls
Bhubaneswar, April 2: On Tuesday, the Congress revealed its initial slate of candidates for eight Lok Sabha and 49 Assembly seats in Odisha. Among the notable selections, Saptagiri Ulaka has been endorsed once again to represent the Koraput Parliamentary constituency, a seat he currently holds in the outgoing Lok Sabha.
According to the list unveiled by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), Sanjay Bhoi, a former MP, will vie for the Bargarh Lok Sabha seat, while Janardhan Dehury is slated to contest from Sundargarh.
In a notable move, film star Manoj Mishra, who recently joined the Congress, will make his electoral debut by contesting from the Balangir Lok Sabha seat.
Similarly, former MLA Bhujabal Majhi is set to enter the Lok Sabha elections from the Nabarangpur constituency. Noteworthy Congress figures such as OPCC president Sarat Pattanayak, Odisha Congress Campaign Committee chief Bhakta Charan Das, and Odisha Congress Campaign Committee coordinator Bijay Patnaik will all participate in the assembly elections.
The party has chosen to re-nominate sitting MLAs Ramesh Jena, Tara Prasad Bahinipati, and Santosh Singh Saluja. Additionally, former Indian hockey player Prabodh Tirkey will vie for an assembly seat from Talsara, while BJD defector Balabhadra Mahi has secured a Congress ticket for the Lanjigarh assembly seat.
