Chiranjib Biswal joins BJD after quitting Congress

Bhubaneswar, March 31: A day following his departure from the Congress party, seasoned leader Chiranjib Biswal formally joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today at Sankha Bhawan, the party's headquarters, situated in Bhubaneswar.
Arriving at the BJD office amidst a massive rally accompanied by his supporters, Biswal pledged allegiance to the BJD in the presence of MPs Manas Mangaraj, Sasmit Patra, and other prominent leaders.
Expressing his reasons for the switch, Biswal cited his admiration for the welfare initiatives spearheaded by CM Naveen Patnaik. "I come here without any personal political aspirations. I am committed to fulfilling any responsibilities entrusted to me by the party. I am grateful to CM Naveen Patnaik and BJD general secretary Pranab Prakash Das for offering me this opportunity," Biswal stated.
Formerly representing Jagatsinghpur as an MLA, Biswal tendered his resignation to Odisha Pradesh Congress (PCC) president Sarat Pattanayak on Saturday before making the move to BJD.
Son of former Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha Basant Biswal, Chiranjib Biswal served as the Congress MLA from Jagatsinghpur from 2014 to 2019, and he had also secured a seat in the Assembly from Tirtol in 2004. Additionally, he had previously held the position of working president within the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC).
